Fourth Element J2 Baselayer

The J2 baselayer is superbly antimicrobial thanks to the use of silver ion technology and has excellent moisture management thanks to a unique fabric designed for extended use under a drysuit.

Keeping the skin dry can be critical to success, whether it's staying warm or preventing infection. The J2 baselayer is designed to wick sweat away from the skin and maintain a dry zone next to the skin. Air is a better insulator than water, so the baselayer provides better thermal protection.

The J2 baselayer system extends this performance with proven antimicrobial silver ions embedded in the fibres of the fabric. This allows for long, repeated wear without the risk of skin infection - something that was crucial during the US Deep Caving Team's 2013 expedition to explore the Cheve cave system in Mexico, for which the J2 was specifically designed.

The J2's moisture management also comes into play when the fabric gets wet. Water is wicked away from the skin, and with the right combination of drysuit underwear, further through the fibres of the undersuit. Even when the suit is flooded, the J2 retains some of its performance.

Silver ions are incorporated into the fibres during manufacture, ensuring that the fabric's bacteriostatic and antifungal properties are maintained. These cannot be washed off. The silver ions prevent the formation of bacterial cell membranes so that most bacteria cannot grow in the fibres of the garment. However, this does not affect the naturally occurring bacteria on the skin itself.

A simple, close-fitting design with flat seams for next-to-skin comfort provides the perfect solution under any drysuit underwear. Not only is this baselayer easy to put on, it also looks great and is extremely comfortable thanks to the excellent all-way stretch fabric and flat seams.
